About Us

Education is one of the most powerful tools for personal and societal growth. We are privileged to enjoy the opportunities it provides, yet millions around the world are denied this fundamental civil right because of poverty, a lack of schools in rural areas, insufficient teachers, and the unequal distribution of resources.

During a trip to the Dajabón province in the Dominican Republic, we witnessed these challenges firsthand. Many of the villagers were Haitian refugees who fled political unrest and turmoil in Haiti. Despite finding relative safety in the Dominican Republic, they faced systemic discrimination, legal obstacles to documentation, difficulties finding jobs, and lack of access to healthcare. Families struggled to afford school supplies and provide for the kids, so many children were expected to work to help support their households. As a result, fewer than 30% of children were able to continue on to secondary school, leaving them without the opportunity to break the cycle of poverty. Even if they do, children have to walk more than thirty minutes daily to attend the only school in the area. The classrooms lacked proper facilities, books, and school supplies. Seeing these barriers to education compelled us to take action.

To raise awareness, we publish a biweekly newsletter highlighting education-related news and the persistent inequalities in access to schooling. Beyond advocacy, we organized a book drive that provided over 300 used books and supplies to local children. Through a fundraising event, we raised $2,500 to purchase school supplies and support students in the Dominican Republic.
